The Parenting Connect Story

Being a parent is the hardest full-time job. Can't take annual leave, sick leave, and it's 24/7.  Parenting is often difficult because there isn't an instructional manual or a director telling you how to say your lines. With children changing and growing up through different life stages, we're often faced with unpredictable problems. Without a manual, we're faced with either experimenting or learning from others. Parents often ask their friends, search online, read a book, or sometimes, ask their mother. Every child is different, and every one responds to the same life event differently. What works for someone's child may not work for ours.

Parenting resources in Chinese are scarce. While working with children and families with moderate to severe mental health difficulties, I realised there are not many Chinese speaking health professionals, and evidence-based parenting courses and books were unavailable, or hard to get hold of. Not to mention, time is a commodity and making time to leave the house or to read a book is difficult when even having the time to use the bathroom is a rarity.  Where were the options?

I started Parenting Connect to break some of those barriers.

By bringing evidence-based parenting information into parents' home, rather than waiting for parents to reach out, and presenting it in an engaging, animated format that's translated into multiple languages, parents are able

  • to learn at their own pace,

  • in their own time,

  • in a language they can understand,

  • in the comfort of their own homes,

  • at an affordable price.

Information can be easily shared with other family members - whether it's their spouse who are busy at work, or grandparents who are overseas (we know that consistent parenting is key!).

I believe that everyone has the right to effective parenting strategies.

I believe that learning should also be easy and fun.

Good parenting, good child outcome, happier family, healthier society.
